Herman Wong

Herman is a 2023/24 articling student at Torkin Manes.

A graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School, Herman was the 1st place co-winner in the Winkler Institute Negotiation Competition, a two-time semi-finalist in the annual Dentons Cup negotiation competition, an invitee to the Canadian National Negotiation Competition and the recipient of the Miller Thomson LLP National Entrance Award. At Osgoode, Herman served as a student representative on the Osgoode Student Caucus, a copy editor for Obiter Dicta, a member of the Osgoode chapter of the International Refugee Assistance Project, and a mentor in the Osgoode Mentorship Program and for Osgoode OUTLaws.

Outside of work, Herman is involved in numerous organizations and events to promote justice education, particularly amongst youth. Herman previously served as a judge in the Osgoode Cup mooting competition, a conference mentor for Advocates of Tomorrow, and a mock trial judge for Evocation Academy. Herman is also an active volunteer for the Ontario Justice Education Network (OJEN), having served as a justice education fellow conducting workshops for high school students on topics including criminal law and employment law. For his work at OJEN, Herman was awarded the Tate Herbert Memorial Post-Secondary Award.

Prior to Torkin Manes, Herman has experience working at a personal injury firm, the Crown Attorney’s office in downtown Toronto and a criminal defence firm. He is also a writer whose work has been published in the Ottawa Citizen, Capital Current and The Charlatan.
