Report Recommends that the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario Change How it Investigates Complaints & Investigative Reports

On April 30, 2018, the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care made public Streamlining the Physician Complaints Process in Ontario, a report written in 2016 by the Honourable Justice Stephen Goudge who retired from the Ontario Court of Appeal in 2014 (the “Report”). The Report makes a number of far-reaching recommendations on how to streamline the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (“CPSO”)’s investigative and discipline processes. What follows is a summary of some of the major proposed changes to the CPSO’s investigative process.
