Torkin Manes commemorates National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Each year on September 30, Torkin Manes joins communities across Canada in observing the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This day provides an opportunity to reflect on the profound and lasting impacts of the residential school system and honour the children who never returned home, as well as survivors, their families and their communities.

Established as a federal statutory holiday in 2021 in response to a call to action from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is an important day of remembrance and reflection. It encourages all Canadians to deepen their understanding of the history and legacy of residential schools and to consider how we can contribute to meaningful reconciliation.
